Description: (by goodreads.com) To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?
Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Timesbestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments.
My Review: Might be my favorite book of the series so far, although I have to say I really loved City of Ashes. I’m in awe of this book. truly. Out of all the things I saw coming, I did not see Sebastian. At all, I didn’t even think that he could have been bad. I was shocked when I found out the full story.
MASSSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD
so I’m going to give you my overall rating now
I only realized he was evil when probably everyone else did when he kissed Clary and it felt wrong for her and then onwards. When it felt wrong that’s when I should have known yup he’s the REAL brother but took so long to click. I thought it was magnificently written. As much as I hate for bad things happening to Simon I thought it was necessary to the essential story line. I mean wow, because of his imprisonment we learn so much from Hodge. This installment was brutal on my heart, with what happened to Max, what Isabelle went through, the huge battle of shadowhunter and downworlders vs demons. It was so carefully thought through and it all flowed together seamlessly. Cassandra Clare you either have the best editor or you’re just that boss (or both) either way the events in the book both great and tragic tugged at my heart strings. The character development went above and beyond as well as the essential plot line. It’s amazing… I see through my notes though that I’m actually wondering why it didn’t just end there because it would have been perfect, but now after having read the City of Fallen Angels I realize there were a lot of loose ends that needed to be tied up. So I’m glad the series continued but wow… also fangirl moment LUKE AND JOCELYN OMFG YES!!!!!!!!! sorry I know clace should be my favorite ship but no Luke and Jocelyn are who says nothing interesting can happen to older ladies who are single moms, she’s a bamf and UGH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH… *ahem* sorry the fangirl is back in her cage… Sorry I have to go to work soon so the other 3 I owe will come later ❤
